In a Parliamentary Petition to the Minister of Shipping & Island Policy, the Deputy Minister of Development & Investment of the K.O. SYRIZA-PS, Member of Parliament of Heraklion, Harry Mamoulakis, filed the letter of the Mayor of Ikaria Nikos Kalambogia requesting the reduction of ferry ticket prices, as well as the strengthening of the transport equivalent, in order to address the increase in the cost of transporting people and goods to and from the island of Ikaria.
As highlighted in the Mayor's letter, the recent increase in ferry ticket prices has put Ikarians in a difficult position, negatively affecting the island's tourism prospects. Especially the permanent residents who are forced to travel frequently for business or other reasons, such as health reasons, given the chronic understaffing of the Health Units, are in an extremely unfavourable position. With regard to the Transport Equivalent, an effort by the State to strengthen insularity, it is stressed that it must be strengthened, both to meet the needs that have been created and to redress the injustice that is being created for islanders.
Charis Mamoulakis asks the Minister for answers on what he intends to do to meet these requests.
