The Agistrio Municipality’s organic waste recycling equipment was upgraded with the delivery of a modern garbage truck and 50 brown bins, by Attica Regional Governor George Patoulis to Mayor Ioannis Athanasiou, as part of a related distribution program implemented by the Region with funding provided entirely by the European Union.
During the handover ceremony, Mr. G. Patoulis expressed his satisfaction with the municipalities« positive response to the effort to promote recycling through the new solid waste management model. He praised the mayor’s effectiveness, emphasizing: “Agistri is becoming yet another important partner in our effort to make recycling a part of our daily lives. For a modern, ”green» region.« Referring to the use of the bins, he noted that the collection of organic waste produces soil amendment, which is used either by municipalities or by citizens themselves as part of the circular economy. He concluded with the assurance and promise that, with the new equipment, the island will become »even more beautiful, greener, and cleaner,” and that the regional government will always stand by him.
For his part, Mayor I. Athanasiou thanked the regional government for its cooperation in all areas, particularly in the area of sanitation, noting: «The Region of Attica and Mr. Patoulis are leading the way in this effort, and we will stand together to help carry out this difficult task.».
