Cleaning of plots and uncovered areas from grass

In light of the new fire season which has already begun, the Municipality of Kythira calls on the owners or any other lawful occupants of plots of land and other open spaces located within the administrative boundaries of the Municipality to take the following actions:

in deforestation of these from the dry grass

– in the removal of cut grass that may arise, as well as other flammable materials located on their properties and within a radius of one hundred (100) meters around the entire perimeter of their land

– in the tree pruning them, leaving the full width of the streets clear and a height of more than four (4) meters, in order to ensure safe access for pedestrians and tall vehicles, throughout the entire road network of the Municipality of Kythira

The Municipality of Kythira hereby announces the relevant provisions currently in effect, in the hope that citizens and residents, recognizing the seriousness of the matter, will make every effort to fulfill their obligations.

A. Fire Service Regulation No. 4/2012—Article 1: Scope of Application—Obligations

  1. Owners, legal possessors, and usufructuaries of plots of land and other open spaces located within cities, towns, and settlements, and within a distance of up to 100 meters from their boundaries, are required to clear these areas of dry vegetation and remove it, to remove any other abandoned flammable or explosive materials or objects found within them, in order to prevent the risk of fire, or its rapid spread, as well as taking any other measures, as appropriate, aimed at preventing causes and reducing the risk of fire.
  2. In the areas referred to in paragraph 1 of this article, it is prohibited to light fires, discarding lit cigarettes, matches, and other materials from May 1 through October 31 of each year.».

B. Law 3852/2010 «Kallikratis Program,» Article 94, paragraph 26

«In accordance with current fire safety regulations, measures are being taken to ensure that owners, tenants, and usufructuaries of plots of land and other open spaces located within cities, towns, and settlements and within a distance of up to 100 meters from their boundaries, as well as the obligation of municipalities to carry out cleanup on their own initiative in the event of noncompliance by those responsible.

At the expense of those who do not comply is required fine, which constitutes revenue for the relevant municipality, the corresponding expense incurred by the municipality for cleaning and a lawsuit is filed »for the offense under Article 433 of the Penal Code.".

WE ASK ALL MUNICIPAL RESIDENTS AND RESIDENTS TO STRICTLY COMPLY WITH THESE RULES
