The bad weather that will affect most of our country today is in progress since Friday evening, as rains and snowfalls have already occurred in Northeastern Greece and winds are constantly increasing. The big drop in temperature brought by the invasion of polar air masses from the north will be accompanied by heavy rainfall in some places in the eastern and southern islands, snowfall at low altitudes, gusty winds and heavy frost, according to estimates by the National Observatory of Athens/meteo.gr.
Snowfall in the central and northern regions on Saturday will be mainly light, although it will also occur in lowland areas, but in Central Greece and in the mountains of the Peloponnese it will be dense at times. Large amounts of precipitation (rain and snow) are expected in Evia, An. Boeotia, northern parts of Attica and Crete. Thunderstorms will occur in the coastal areas of the Central and Southern Aegean and will locally produce fine hail.
More specifically for Attica, snowfall will be limited above 300 meters altitude in the western and northern parts of the prefecture, while in the remaining areas there will be rainfall. After noon the phenomena will be mainly located around the mountainous areas and in the remaining areas the weather will improve. In the northern suburbs, snowfall or sleet will be recorded up to 300 meters altitude, with snowfall above 400-500 meters altitude.
