Kythera is entering a state of full political whirlwind, with Mayor Efstratios Harhalakis and the head of the opposition Zacharias Souris exchanging heavy words and «riddles» that foreshadow a hot Easter.
Harhalakis« response: »Playgrounds and ignorance of administration'
The Mayor of Kythera, picking up the gauntlet, went on the counterattack with a comment on Facebook full of irony and accusations about the way the the opposition draws up its statements.
The cutting edge of AI: Mr.Harchalakis left clear hints that Mr.Souris uses external help for his public interventions, stating: «It is good to know the basics of management without the use of AI or other assistance (God forbid)».
The staff and the playgrounds: The Mayor reminded that recruitment depends on the Government and not on the Municipalities, while he «nailed» Mr. Souris for his reference to playgrounds: «Who judges that Kythera needs only 4 playgrounds? By what logic?», he asked, inviting the Presidents of the Communities to take a stand.
Finale: He concluded with the phrase «For much sorrow breeds insanity», promising surprises after Easter.
The Suri Response: «Who's looking for you? The European or the Greek?»
Zacharias Souris« response was lightning fast and even more cryptic, avoiding the discussion on playgrounds and focusing on what he calls »documented truth".
Evasions and dates: Mr.Souris accused the Mayor of not saying a word about the substance of the complaints (delays in Transparency, correct budget repetitions), resorting to ironies instead of answers.
The «enigma» that is rocking the boat: The closing statement of Mr. Souris is already causing a lot of discussion in the cafes of the island. Using the children's rhyme, the head of the opposition has dropped a megaton bomb:
«Say... flour? Who's looking for you? The European or the Greek?»
This report seems to photograph possible inspections by supervisory authorities (perhaps the European Public Prosecutor's Office or the Greek Justice), suggesting that the «surprises» after Easter will not be political but legal.
Political assessment
The climate in Kythera is now toxic. The Mayor's reference to «exogenous assistance and AI» shows an attempt to devalue the speech of the opposition, while the retort of Mr. Souris for «Europeans and Greeks» moves the game to the level of institutional controls.
The Kythera.News is closely monitoring developments. The only certainty is that this year's Resurrection in Kythera will have a strong political colour.
