Victim hacker the website crashed Municipality of Thessaloniki, with the systems being taken out of service.
Speaking to newsbomb.gr, the mayor of Thessaloniki, Konstantinos Zervas, confirmed the news, stating: «The municipality's software system has been subjected to a cyberattack.».
According to him, the hackers sent emails demanding a ransom. For its part, the municipality initiated all the procedures required in such circumstances.
«We informed the Deputy Minister of the Interior, Stelios Petsas and Kyriakos Pierrakakis, Minister of Digital Governance. We also addressed Attica Cybercrime Prosecution and we have filed a lawsuit,» added Mr. Zervas.
According to a relevant announcement by the municipality, as soon as the presence of malicious software in the information systems was detected, the prescribed protocols were activated.
It should be noted that recently, the issue of hackers and malicious software has come to the fore globally with the “Pegasus” case.

The case came to light through an investigation—published in 17 media outlets, including Le Monde, The Guardian, and The Washington Post, according to which there was widespread and ongoing abuse of the «Pegasus» software developed by the Israeli company NSO Group by companies, authoritarian regimes, and governments.
