The need to provide «immediate solutions» to the problem of the «unprecedented and excessive stockpiling observed in wine», says Laconia MP Stavros Arachovitis.
The press release states the following:
Together with the Coordinator of the Rural Section of SYRIZA-P.S. F. Kourebe, we had a hasty meeting, on Tuesday, June 29, with the President of KEOSOE Chr. Markou. The reason and main topic of the meeting was the unprecedented and excessive stockpiling of wine, which led EDOAO, KEOSOE and SEO to address a joint letter to the Minister of Agr. Development and Food.
After this unfavourable year, thethat we have had several months of closure of economic activities, particularly in the catering and tourism sectors, and as the harvest approaches, the accumulation of last year's production is bound to will squeeze as never before the price of grapes to the producer for this year's new harvest, but also the disposal price of processing products.
Given this difficult outlook, the solutions we have discussed are provided by the EU's emergency measures to deal with the pandemic, but will must be given immediately, so that last year's surpluses are withdrawn and this year's production at least gains relative momentum.
It is estimated that, in order for the withdrawal of surpluses to be effective, EUR 30 million is needed for crisis distillation in wine. The withdrawal of raisins through distillation for the production of disinfectants was also discussed, since a very large part of last year's production is also unavailable and stored.
Unfortunately the Strategic Plan for viticulture, launched under SYRIZA, has been completely “frozen” and now with the pandemic, the criticality of its absence is even more apparent.
All of the above requires the brave, timely and inclusive intervention of the Ministry of Agriculture. Development and Food, to provide immediate solutions.
