Reactions and complaints from the Kythera Hospital Employees Association (UPD)

Support to the request of the «Orange» association and complaint about the disclosure of personal data of nurses

**The publication is updated upon re-sending of a relevant press release at the request of the Employees' Association.

Two important interventions were made by the Kythera Hospital Employees Association, highlighting critical issues. Firstly, the General Assembly of the employees drew up the recent request of the «Orange» club», as a minimal recognition of the tragic events that shook the island.

At the same time, the Association's complaint about the disclosure of personal data of nurses by the hospital's administration, following a request from a former patient, caused a sensation. The Association refers to the targeting of employees, and expresses concern about any attempt to intimidate them. It states that it stands by its colleagues and denounces the attitude of the administration, which it considers unacceptable and dangerous.

The two press releases follow:

The General Assembly of the employees of the General Hospital of Kythira responding to the call of the «PORTOOKALIA» association discussed and decided to join its request as a minimum recognition of the tragic events that plunged the whole island in grief.

ANNOUNCEMENT - PRESS RELEASE

We were surprised to learn that, in an application to the hospital administration, a private individual who was hospitalized at the hospital requested the names of the nurses on duty for legal use, claiming leakage of his personal data. We were even more surprised to learn that the administration gave them. Regardless of the right of every citizen to access data of public institutions, this case raises some essential questions:

First of all, with what evidence and for what reason a particular section of workers is targeted who just happened to be on duty at the time?;

By what logic only the nurses on duty are dismissed for leaking as if the hospital was empty and the only people present at the incident were them?;

Is personal data a right only for patients and not for employees?;

And in conclusion, is the petition connected to the fact that statements were given to the police about the incident by some female colleagues? Courtesy  one might wonder if this is an attempt to intimidate fellow colleagues in anticipation of a possible future trial.

It is surprising, however, that, while there was another way to provide the data, the Administration «took it upon itself». She chose to give the details of her colleagues without any investigation, as she should have done, taking responsibility for the decision herself.. Without hesitation and without hesitation and without delay he throws the workers to the sword. Practices that are extremely dangerous for all of us.

As the General Assembly of the employees of the General Hospital of Kythera consider this action unacceptable and offensive. We also believe that the management had a duty to defend and protect our colleagues.

We declare that we stand by their side and we see this event as an attack on all of us.
