Rescue of 361 foreigners south of Gavdos by the Coast Guard

The Greek authorities have rescued approximately 361 foreigners on board a fishing boat, 35 nautical miles south of Gavdos.

According to the Coast Guard - Greek Coast Guard, a Coast Guard float was found at the scene of the incident, while the foreigners were transported by a Danish-flagged cargo ship to the port of Paleochora.

A FRONTEX aircraft also participated in the operation.

A few hours earlier, in a second incident, another 30 foreigners in a dinghy were spotted by a FRONTEX vessel 25 nautical miles south of Gavdos and were safely transferred to the same port.
