The celebration of the patron saint of Karavas, Saint Charalambos, was held with respect and emotion in the presence of the residents and friends of the village. This year's event, however, had a special character, as the Association «The Beautiful Karavas» decided to not to cut the traditional New Year's cake, respecting the memory of the late Kosmas Tzortzopoulos, who was the President of the community and an active member of the Association.
At a particularly charged moment, the Board of Directors of the Association honoured the family of the deceased by awarding honorary plaque in recognition of his valuable contribution to the community and Kythera.
The moving speech of the President of the Association
During the event, the President of the Association made a deep emotional report on the life and action of Cosmas Tzortzopoulos, underlining his ethos, integrity and diligence. He described him discreet, humble and dedicated to his work, with an inexhaustible desire to see the community of Karavas progress.
Particularly sharp was her reference to the division and violence, stressing that the memory of Cosmas calls for unity and not conflict. “We cannot, of course, get over his loss. Shame on those who caused it. Souls always seek vindication, but not violence, hypocrisy and punishment,” he said, inviting those present to honor his vision, united, for the progress of the community.
Excitement and Participation from the whole Community
The event was attended by His Eminence the Metropolitan of Kythera, as well as the Papapanagiotis and Papapetros, along with many residents and friends of Karavas. In a particularly symbolic moment, was observed one minute's silence in honor of Kosmas Tzortzopoulos, with the attendees paying tribute to a man who linked his name with development and social contribution in his place.

Today we all together honored with our presence the feast of the patron saint of our village Karavas, Saint Charalambos. This year the club, «The Beautiful Karavas» will not cut the traditional pie of the club as every year respecting the memory of our beloved Kosmas. According to a unanimous decision of the Board of Directors of our club, «O Omorfos Karavas» took the initiative and honored the family of Kosmas Tzortzopoulos. This initiative was a simple gesture in memory of the President of the community and a member of the association, for his contribution.
The speech of the President of «The Beautiful Karavas»
The loss of Kosmas Tzortzopoulos is irreplaceable, since his short journey and his action marked the community life of the municipal district of Karavas, an excellent man in ethics and humanity, but also with many sensitivities, which those who knew him and cooperated with him, have only positive memories and comments.
He was always humble, a friend and known to all of us, he stood out for many things, but his humanity and hard work were characteristic. Discrete, active in his actions and above all an active community leader, with measurable results. His great concern every day was what and how to develop our community, he offered personally, and materially at all costs.
He won fairly, with a lot of personal work, always keeping his appreciation and respect low, both from his fellow countrymen and from all Kytherians.
For his memory, we must put an end to divisiveness and violence, we must all stand together and open new paths away from divisiveness. We cannot, of course, get over his loss. Shame on those I caused itν. Souls always seek justification but not violence, hypocrisy and punishment. Cosmas wants us united to continue the struggle he started for the betterment and progress of the region he lived in. So let us reflect. We know that times are difficult for his parents and his brother. Honor to those parents for giving birth to such a lad. Let us all applaud him together.
The treasurer of the association awarded the family of the late President of the community of Karavas Kythera Kosmas Tzortzopoulos, for his personal and material contribution to the development of the community and Kythera in general, with an honorary plaque.
The event was honoured with the presence of His Eminence the Bishop of Kythera, the Reverends Papapanagiotis and Papapetros, the residents of the community of Karavas and many of his Kytherian friends.
