The General Hospital - Health Centre of Kythera «Trifyllion» has made a significant strengthening of its medical staffing, with the swearing in of Mr. E. Mavrommatis, a doctor specialising in Anaesthesiology, who has been appointed Director. The swearing-in ceremony was held by the Governor of the Hospital, Mr. George Megalokonomos, on 10th February 2025.
The hiring of the new anesthesiologist joins the recent appointments of a General Practitioner at the rank of Attending A and a Gynecologist at the rank of Attending B. In addition, the hospital is in the process of finalizing the recruitment of a second surgeon, as well as publishing a notice for the following positions:
•1 Pathology post at the rank of Director
•1 orthopaedic position at the rank of Director
•1 post in Gynaecology with the rank of B Supervisor’
•1 position in Dentistry at the rank of Director
Strengthening of Nursing and Administrative Staff
Apart from the medical staff, the Kythera Hospital is also recruiting additional staff in order to improve the health services provided. Specifically, the recruitment process concerns:
• 2 positions for nurses
• 2 positions of TE Administration - Finance
• 1 post of midwives
The administration of the hospital stresses that the strengthening of the «Trifylleio» with new staff is a key priority, so that the health unit can meet the needs of the island's residents and visitors with modern and quality services.
The staffing of the hospital was a chronic demand of the local community, as the shortage of medical staff was a major obstacle to its proper operation. The new recruitments are expected to alleviate the health coverage of the island, however, full staffing of all departments is still required to ensure the stable and uninterrupted operation of the hospital.
The hospital administrator, Mr. George Ap. Mr. George George Megalokonomos, assures that efforts to further strengthen the medical staff and infrastructure will continue, aiming at the continuous upgrading of the health sector in Kythera.
