A press release on the problems in Kythera at the beginning of the tourist traffic was issued by the faction «We live here».
«The tourist season started with serious problems and administrative shortcomings»
The failures, the problems, the obvious inefficiency and the wrong choices of the current Municipal Authority, are causing concern to all Kythirians. All this is happening in the «heart» of the tourist season with the Mayor Mr.Harhalakis and the municipal majority seeking to convince us that what we all live is not so, that everything is fine... But we stay here, we live the reality and we reveal it:
a) The Mayor and the municipal majority want us to forget that there were once even these few summer bus routes with public service licences ! Nor do they conceive of the need to economically move the residents and visitors of the island. The first victim is the children who want to play sports at the naval club and now pay a steep price.
b) The Mayor and the municipal majority pretend that they are not responsible for the continuous water supply interruptions and the degraded water quality while at the same time ensuring the supply to off-plan accommodation with swimming pools and huge consumption. Failures in connection design have unduly delayed the operation of desalination plants.
c) The mayor and the municipal majority do not say a word about airline tickets! Prices, indicatively for Skyros 39 euros , for Kythera from 95 to 154 euros ! But even if you can afford euros, you can NOT find tickets ! The election campaign obviously does not allow Mr. Mayor's preoccupation with everyday life and the demand for more routes.
δ) The Mayor and the municipal majority are not updating us on developments regarding the court injunction of the industrial wind farms. Our repeated questions to the city council were met with a wall of ignorance !
f) Was the Mayor's commitment that the oil burners of the schools will NOT be replaced with oil burners but gradually with heat pumps? We recall that we reacted strongly in the Board to this direct commissioning and we have strange information !
And while the municipal employees are trying to patch the holes of the municipal authority, Mr. Harhalakis decided to give them new duties, those of the gendarme. They will go around the island looking for, he says, who's wasting water and who's dumping garbage in the wrong bin. And all this in a frantic attempt to get away from the problems that have emerged over the summer. Maybe if he gets the army out on the streets, recycling will start.in Kythera.
