Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced on Monday the discovery of an additional 58 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the Black Sea.
«The Fatih drilling rig discovered 58 billion cubic meters of natural gas at a depth of 3,023 meters below sea level in the Çaycuma 1 block,» Erdoğan said after the cabinet meeting in Ankara.
Noting that natural gas reserves in the Black Sea total 710 billion cubic meters, with a commercial value of 1 trillion dollars, Erdoğan said that the country’s goal is to become independent of foreign oil and natural gas as soon as possible.
«Our new wells will pave the way for similar ones on other, neighboring plots. We will begin drilling new wells as soon as possible,» he added.
