If there is one thing that Niki Kerameos with its latest legal moves against teachers' unions, is to rally the country's teachers and professors to a very large extent.
It is noteworthy that in today's (11/10) 24-hour strike, teachers who until now rarely chose to strike as a means of protest and advocacy have declared that they will strike.
“The degree of cohesion in our ranks is now very high. I don't want to talk about percentages, but I can say that very few schools will be operating,” he told NEWS 24/7 educational resource with knowledge of the situation.
The big battle in the court of appeals
Today's confrontation will also be legal. In the morning, the hearing will begin on the appeal filed by the Ministry of Education against the teachers' unions' appeal regarding the strike-boycott, which was initially declared illegal.
Teachers are meeting at 11:30 outside the court of appeals, where they will protest Kerameos' latest maneuvers, which attempts to criminalize the protests and demands of teachers and professors.
The decision is expected on Tuesday, but given the urgency with which the courts have recently been dealing with decisions related to strikes, it is possible that the announcement could come as early as Monday evening.
We remind you that the appeal of the teachers' federations was scheduled to be heard on January 25, 2022. With the Ministry's counter-appeal, the hearing was brought forward to today and coincides with the teachers' strike.
Teachers and professors are protesting, arguing that the way in which schools will be evaluated will lead to the categorization of schools as “good” and “bad,” something that happened in the 1980s in Great Britain, resulting in the closure of half of the schools in the working-class neighborhoods of large cities.
The rally at the Court of Appeals is being organized by the Greek Olympic Committee, the Greek Teachers' Union, and the Greek Teachers' Association.
