It is an internal reshuffling of power at the Maximos Mansion. It is not a cabinet reshuffle, as no new faces are joining the government, according to government sources regarding the changes announced a short while ago by the Prime Minister’s Press Office. The experience of recent crises (the pandemic, wildfires, etc.) has highlighted the need to transform the operational structure at the Maximos Mansion so that it can adapt to the new realities created by these crises.
The internal reshuffling of personnel at the Prime Minister’s Office had essentially been foreshadowed by the Prime Minister in his statement on Monday («We have overcome all crises through determination and unity. That will happen now as well, with bold decisions that will bring about significant change»), at Tuesday’s Cabinet meeting, and during yesterday’s press conference.
Essentially, these are changes that will take place in two phases. The reshuffle will happen, but it will take place at a time of the Prime Minister’s choosing, according to government sources.
The changes made by decision of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis:
– Christos-Georgios Skertsos, who until now has served as Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, assumes the position of Minister of State, with the same responsibilities.
– Christos Triantopoulos, who until now has served as Secretary General of the Ministry of Finance, has been appointed Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, with responsibility for matters related to state aid and recovery from natural disasters.
– Ioannis Oikonomou, who until now served as Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, has been appointed Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister and Government Spokesperson. Ms. Aristotelia Peloni remains in the position of Deputy Government Spokesperson.
– Georgios Stylios, who until now has served as Deputy Minister of Digital Governance, will assume the position of Deputy Minister of Rural Development and Food, succeeding Mr. Ioannis Oikonomou.
– Theodoros Livaniou, who until now has served as Deputy Minister to the Prime Minister, will assume the position of Deputy Minister of Digital Governance, succeeding Mr. Georgios Stylos.
The swearing-in ceremony for the new ministers will take place today at 1:00 p.m. at the Presidential Palace.
