Hospital workers« complaint for »Anti-Vaccination Propaganda"

11 signatory employees of the Trifyllion Hospital: «some of the deniers are practicing anti-vaccine propaganda that is beyond the scope of a prosecutorial investigation!»

Subject a sharp internal confrontation between the employees of the Triphyleion Kythera Hospital arises after today's distribution of a document published by the Adelin-FM radio station. According to this document, the following shall be formulated in writing protest by a group of workers at the hospital, regarding the posting - announcement of a text by the Board of the workers' association on Thursday, 5 August 2021, in which the instrument fully adopts the positions of PDEDIN on the compulsory vaccination and indeed unanimously as it states.

Serious allegations of «Anti-Vaccination Propaganda»

The 11 workers who signed and communicated the protest today state in a scathing tone that «The “nice” phrase YES to vaccination NO to compulsory vaccination also covers the vaccine DENYERS, who are actually saying: NO to vaccination, NO to compulsory vaccination». They add that they do not express no solidarity with the vaccine refusers, who as they complain are a majority in the ranks of unvaccinated workers. At the end of the protest are making a very serious complaint, citing the truth that some of the deniers are practicing anti-vaccine propaganda which touches on the responsibilities of prosecutorial investigation!

The contested text

Protest of workers at the Kythera Hospital

The Board of the workers“ association posted a text stating that it unanimously adopts the positions of PDEDIN on the mandatory vaccination. The ”nice" phrase YES to vaccination NO to compulsory vaccination also covers the vaccine DENYERS, who in fact say: NO to vaccination, NO to compulsory.

We who are both vaccinated and comply with the measures do not feel solidarity with the vaccine deniers. The compulsory vaccination was introduced the day before yesterday and eight months have already passed since all health workers could be vaccinated. So let us not cover ourselves behind the compulsory vaccination that has now come up. So, if they didn't come, would the naysayers be vaccinated? The colleagues who actually believe in vaccination but not compulsory in our institution are few and far between.

Let's tell the truth: MOST IMMUNISTS in our institution are deniers and some of them are also practicing anti-vaccine propaganda, which is beyond the scope of a prosecutor's authority. For all of the above, the post of the Board of Directors, does not reflect all the members of the association who are divided in their position.

Extraordinary General Assembly of the Employees' Association tomorrow Tuesday

In a communication we had with the president of the Employees' Association Mr Kostas Kapsalis we confirmed that the decision of the Board was unanimous as to adoption of the PDEDN text and informed us that it is convened Extraordinary General Meeting for tomorrow, Tuesday 10 August. The meeting is expected to discuss what was published today, to decide the attitude of the association and employees regarding the issue and the participation in the strike mobilization on August 26, 2021 (Panhellenic Work Stoppage 10am - 15pm).

Stavroula Arbilia: «I agree on the issue of non-mandatory, I disagree with individual references in the text of PDEDN»

It was surprising that the text circulated today carried the signature of Mrs. Stavroula Arbilia, medical microbiologist, curator A’ of the Biopathology - Biochemistry Department department at the General Hospital of Kythira, since he is a member of the Board of Directors who unanimously decided to adopt the text of the PDOEDN. We contacted Ms. Arbilia to have her position on the issue and she responded to us about the current diversification that yes, personally supports the non-compulsory vaccination but disagrees with individual parts of the PDOEDN text such as the paragraph «The majority of unvaccinated HCWs have never once contracted coronavirus» and other points.

Assembly in the shadow of the accusations of Anti-Vaccination Propaganda

Interesting is expected to be the tomorrow's extraordinary general meeting which will be conducted in the shadow of the serious charges of anti-vaccine propaganda and the invocation of the prosecutorial investigation on the issue. The complaint of the 11 workers who signed the protest is considered particularly severe and it causes great concern not only in the circles of hospital employees, but also among the residents of the island

It should be mentioned that until before passing of the Hatzidakis law (4820/13.07.2021) and the reactions that followed in the ranks of health workers nationwide, the impression given by the Kythera Hospital, its administration and its employees was reference point both at the level of dealing with the mockery, in diagnosis and treatment, and at the level of organisation of the “Freedom” vaccination programme. The confidence that the hospital inspires in its citizens today seems to be taking a significant hit after the events that have been recorded and reported, and it is obvious that tomorrow puts all sides before their responsibilities. It is imperative that the general situation facing our country to give a signal of confidence back to the local community, at a time when the vaccination rate is not accelerating but slowing down, according to official data from the EODY.

Giannakos: «Vourdoulas divides» but also... disapproval from deniers

On 21 July the president of the PODEDN Michalis Giannakos stated at a meeting that health professionals are strongly in favour of vaccination and how «no room for coronavirus and vaccine deniers». But some of the gathered people strongly disapproved of him! Despite the differences of a few naysayers, the positions of PDEDN extend to a number of institutional issues: «We don't believe that with the bog we will increase vaccination rates, we are scaring the skeptical citizens and so we will not achieve the wall of immunity that we all want» M. Yanakos said. «Vaccines are important for our lives, but we disagree with the compulsory, unpaid leave that implies dismissal» he stressed. As it seems, the confusion caused by the Hatzidakis law on compulsory coverage permeates the entire spectrum of workers, regardless of whether or not they are vaccinated, since there are differences in either the one or the other, depending on personal choices. The fact is that with the law of compulsory coverage, everything is in doubt and everything is up in the air. Employment rights, pay, employees and also the replacement of organic posts in the NHS.

Vaccine failure seeks «antidote» to Mandatory

The vaccination failure in the general population is putting pressure on the government, which is looking for solutions to get the country out of the deadlock and build the wall of immunity it needs ahead of the 4th wave and winter. The compulsion on health workers seems more like a communication gimmick by the government, given that 90% plus of hospital workers are already vaccinated. According to the Athens - Piraeus Hospital Doctors Association (HINAP), hospital doctors are vaccinated at 94.3% (the rest are immune due to contracting the virus), while the rest of the health workers are vaccinated at over 80%. Also the Panhellenic Federation of Public Hospital Employees (PDEDIN) notes that 90% of hospital staff are immune either through vaccination or natural infection. The unions estimate that there are about 10,000 who have not been vaccinated against coronavirus. Doctors and nurses may have been vaccinated in the majority of cases, but in absolute terms some 25,000 health professionals have not been vaccinated.

At the same time the government took back the Compulsory Education for Teachers. The Kathimerini Newspaper analyses why the Prime Minister has retreated with the main concern being a smooth return to the desk. It seems that the government is being driven to deadlock while workers are divided.
