Its proposal for the establishment of European certificate of vaccination, the Prime Minister reiterated Kyriakos Mitsotakis who participated this afternoon in the teleconference for the first day of the European Council.
Today's main focus was on the coordinated response to the pandemic from the European Union Member States, the licensing, production and distribution of vaccines, and movements.
The Prime Minister, according to government sources, noted that the sooner decisions are taken the better for the EU, as otherwise it is inevitable that the private sector will move in this direction.
Mitsotakis warned that “if we as the EU do not do it, someone else will do it for us, probably the big technology companies”, while he made it clear that is in favour of citizens entering as little personal data as possible.
Also, referring to his proposal, he reiterated emphatically that the certificate would not be equivalent to a health passport, but instead “it will open up a fast lane for travel, without the restrictions caused by diagnostic tests and mandatory quarantine”.
The Prime Minister also stressed that the facilitation of travel does not only concern countries that receive a large number of tourists but also the air transport and hospitality sectors.
Also during his intervention, Mitsotakis referred to the coronavirus vaccines and pointed out that the latest scientific data confirm the high effectiveness of the vaccines,
Finally, the Prime Minister once again supported unity in the Union's vaccination strategy and the strong messages that need to be sent to pharmaceutical companies to respect their commitments on vaccine production and delivery.
