What happened to the 58 Kurdish refugees - 43 of whom are unaccompanied minors - who landed on the coast of Kythera, in the area of Avlemonas on Saturday morning?;
Since noon on Saturday, the Kythera Coast Guard replied that it knows nothing.
«Call headquarters and they'll tell you...» This is the answer we received.
In contrast to the Coast Guard, the Kythera Police Department informed us that they knew that two Coast Guard vessels were operating on the northeast coast of Kythera and that the police commander together with police officers had been in Avlemonas since noon in search of the migrants.
Later in the evening, earlier from 11.00 pm, the group of refugees was kept blocked behind the cemetery of Avlemonas, while the area was well guarded by men and women of the Coast Guard.
After it became known that the migrants-refugees were being held there, dozens of citizens came to Avlemonas to see what was happening. The citizens recorded the presence of the migrants - refugees, and the process of boarding them on board the coast guard boats at 11.00pm, causing some port officials to become annoyed because they happened to be there taking videos and photos.
70 people in total, with 58 asylum seekers
Finally, in Avlemonas, Municipal Councillor George Didimiotis counted 69 people boarding the boats of the Coast Guard. The information we had earlier from other sources spoke of 70 people, with 58 of them asking for immediate inclusion in the asylum procedures. Among the 58 there are 43 unaccompanied minors.
