Two helicopters collided in midair today over a popular tourist attraction in the Gold Coast region of Australia, killing four people and seriously injuring several others, authorities announced.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the accident, near the Sea World theme park at approximately 2:00 p.m. local time, Queensland Police Inspector Gary Warrell said during a press briefing.
According to him, after the collision, the two helicopters made an emergency landing.
“As a result, four people lost their lives today,” he said.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau announced that it has launched an investigation into the causes of the accident.
