An alarm was raised earlier today at noon at the Fire Service of Kythera, due to a fire that broke out in an agroforestry area.
The fire broke out shortly after 14:00, near the area of Kakia Melissa, which is located between Chora and Livadi. Despite the winds blowing in the area, the mobilization of the firefighting forces was instantaneous.
Ground forces of the Fire Brigade rushed to the scene and managed to contain the front before it reached dangerous dimensions. The fire was brought under full control in a short time.
The authorities recommend that residents and visitors to the island should exercise special caution as the fire season is in full swing.
