The issue of upgrading the Kythira Airport remains up in the air, despite the his assurances Nikos Hardalias, Regional Governor of Attica that the Region is willing to fund the project, provided that a relevant decision is made by the Kythira City Council. However, the municipal government has not brought the issue up for discussion, leaving this important infrastructure project for the island in limbo.
At its meetings City Council Meeting on February 22, 2025, the items to be put to a vote concern administrative issues and local regulations, with no mention of the airport. Despite the fact that the project was removed from the Region's budget, the opportunity for his reintegration does not appear to be a priority for the municipal government, raising serious questions about the management of development projects on the island.
The airport is a vital project for the development of tourism and the improvement of Kythira’s air connections, while the delay in the procedures is causing legitimate concerns among the island’s residents and organizations. Why is the municipal government avoiding discussion of such a critical issue?; Will he let this opportunity slip away, or will he move forward immediately with the necessary decision, as the Region has clearly requested?;
