On the podium of the Parliament Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is currently in Greece to speak about the bill on the EEAS entitled: «Procedure for the lifting of communications privacy, cybersecurity and protection of citizens» personal data". The debate is taking place at the level of political leaders and against the background of the controversial wiretapping case. SYRIZA President Alexis Tsipras will then take to the podium in a political duel that is expected to take place at a high level.
The bill on the NIS was voted in principle by the competent committee of the Parliament by the members of the New Democracy party, while it was voted against by all opposition parties except the Hellenic Solution, which reserved its vote for the plenary session.
Both Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Alexis Tsipras have weapons in their quiver which they will use. The Prime Minister is expected to toe the line that the government has long drawn, pointing out that yes, the framework was blurred, but at no time has the state purchased illegal software like Predator. Most importantly, however, he will focus on the proposed regulations, such as the reorganisation of the NIS, and the fact that another safeguard is being put in place with regard to the surveillance of political figures.
