What's chilling is the statement made by Theodoros Vassilakopoulos, who works at Laiko Hospital. Ο professor of pulmonology and intensive care, revealed that in the previous wave of the pandemic, hospitals created beds that were called ICUs when they did not meet the actual standards, resulting in increased mortality.
Referring to the hospital Folk, revealed that in the previous wave of the pandemic five beds were created at the covid clinic called ICU while there wasn't even compressed air, there was only oxygen.
As he explained speaking to OPEN, they needed special respirators to compress the oxygen. «When this unit was in operation, we had very, very, very moderate results with lenient characterizations», noted Theodoros Vassilakopoulos.
Taking beds from the operating room and making them ICU beds will not achieve mortality standards, he explained as «we cannot achieve good results when we do not have fully staffed and trained personnel».
The professor of pulmonology made this revelation when he was asked about the complaint of the PODIN that while the Laiko hospital has no available ICU beds, these five beds remain closed.
«The beds that Mr. Giannakos (the president of PODEDN) says were developed in the previous wave are not real ICU beds.. They were developed in Laiko and then ceased to operate. A department was created and it wasn't the best success, if you look at the mortality rates you will understand, I can't say more. Ask for the official figures on how many people came out of this department».
Theodoros Vassilakopoulos pointed out that the same applies to other hospitals in the country where due to the previous violent wave ICU beds were created in-house without complying with the specifications in infrastructure but also in qualified staff.
