«The coming year may be a year of hope because it will be the first year of change,» says the president of SYRIZA-PS in his New Year’s message.
Alexis Tsipras' New Year's message is as follows:
«New Year's Eve is always a day of hope, no matter how difficult the circumstances may be, no matter how grim the balance sheet of the past year may be.".
The year ahead, however, may indeed be a year of hope, because it will be the first year of change. A year in which justice will finally begin to impose its own order—on the economy, society, the workplace, the state—everywhere.
In 2022, every aspect of a policy that prioritizes profits, superprofits, and profiteering over people was put to the test on our homeland.
Above justice, above dignity.
Above and beyond even the right to survival.
You don’t need anyone to point out the reality to you. You experience it every day—at home, at work, at school, at college, at the supermarket, in the unemployment lines, and in the humiliation of the various «passes» that reserve charity for the many and the most brazen profiteering for the few.
In the face of this brutal onslaught, there is one wish and one hope shared by the entire society: that this nightmare end here.
The nightmare of rising prices that is plaguing millions of households.
The nightmare of the dismantling of every public institution and the sell-off of the National Health System, which has already cost thousands of lives.
The nightmare of images of malnourished children, of children who wait for months in line for surgery, of young people who are forbidden even to dream of a future of education and a creative life.
The nightmare of the abuse of the rule of law—with wiretapping and attempts to cover it up, with lies, propaganda, and division—all mobilized to conceal the unprecedented redistribution of wealth in favor of a powerful few and at the expense of the many.
2023 will be the year that turns this wish and hope into reality.
In terms of political change, not compromise.
With clean hands.
On the basis of justice, not revenge. That kind of justice which, no matter what political camp you belong to or which party you voted for, you cannot fail to understand and seek.
Justice is each and every one of us.
Change is each and every one of us.
We will earn our share of the light through our own stance, our own solidarity, and our own struggle.
»I wish everyone, with all my heart, a happy new year.".
