Another tragedy unfolded yesterday evening in the Aegean Sea, when a boat with 30 refugees and migrants capsized near Kos, in the area of Psalidi. Two women and two babies died, while 26 people were rescued by the Coast Guard and taken ashore.
The testimony of the only paediatrician at the hospital of Kos, who rushed to help the rescued children, is shocking. «Today there were two small babies in the wreck. I can still see them in front of me,» she said with emotion.
The paediatrician described how an infant, who was almost lifeless when she received him, was saved. With great effort, she managed to care for it, warm it and give it milk. «He drank and smiled. That was his thank you,» she said tearfully, expressing the human side of this tragedy.
Searches to locate any missing persons are continuing.
