Of particular importance was Hippolytos‘ intervention the other day regarding the development of the island, the local conflicts and the occasional ’’firsts’'.
Not only for its analysis and its substance, on which everyone can have their own personal opinion - personally I consider it well-founded - but also for the way and intensity of the reactions, which testifies to the ‘accumulated flammable matter’ as a result of an anarchic and unplanned development, which has reached the point of producing ’deficits’ and hitting real deadlocks with all that this implies for jobs, property, people and quality of life.
Hippolytus shook the skeletons in the cupboards of the ruins of ... ‘’Paleochora’’ and caused a disturbance of much greater importance than the transient primacy of the Chora of Kapsali, Livadi or Potamos. A place without a Strategic Development Plan in times of great change and competing parameters does not go far... and far is now... And the longer we delay in pulling up the rug and finding the sloppy things we have been hiding for so many years, the more intractable the problem becomes. Environment, Infrastructure, Tourism, Tourism, Primary Sector, Services, Transport, parameters that feed and influence each other in a modern reality.
Specializing the issue, geographical units, zones should be defined according to the uses and local data of each area. The trap of local disputes and barren rivalries, partly justified by uneven and unilateral development, must be eliminated.
The debate needs to be coordinated, disciplined and effective, through online support. The conclusions should take the form of concrete proposals and guidelines, be adopted by all residents, the Municipal Groups and the collective bodies, and with the approval of the Municipal Council, in the form of a study, become the guide for action for the whole island, as soon as possible. I must state that only the Municipal Party ‘We stay here’ has submitted a basis for discussion (the new deal probably does not do us justice) on Development and Tourism, which should mobilise the other municipal bodies, while we must encourage each individual resident or friend to submit their own opinion on what is happening.
The discussion will happen anyway “times are cloudy”...the better prepared the better.!!!!
