His Career and Education

Nikos Tagaras was born in Chiliomodi, Corinthia. He was a graduate of the School of Civil Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), and during his student years, he was awarded scholarships from the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY). He practiced civil engineering for 37 years.

Decades of Service in Local Government

Before entering the national political arena, he served for decades in local government, holding numerous positions of responsibility in his hometown:

President of the Community of Chiliomodi.
Mayor of Tenea.
President of the Corinth Regional Union of Municipalities.
Prefect of Corinth for two consecutive terms, from 2003 to 2010.

His career in Parliament and as a minister

In 2012, he was first elected as a member of parliament for Corinth with the New Democracy party, a position to which he was re-elected in all subsequent elections through 2023.

In 2014, he served as Deputy Minister of the Environment.
From 2020 to 2023, he served as Deputy Minister of Environment and Energy, overseeing the areas of spatial planning, the urban environment, and e-governance.

Throughout his long parliamentary career, he played an active role in key House committees and international friendship groups, making his mark primarily on issues related to infrastructure, the environment, and regional development.

Nikos Tagaras was married, the father of two children, and had been blessed with four grandchildren.
