Volos: The young psychiatrist Spyros Roditakis died suddenly

The open air conditioner led to the macabre discovery.

Volos is trying to come to terms with the tragic news. The young psychiatrist was found dead in his home, shortly before he was set to open his new practice.

The unfortunate psychiatrist, who had been admitted to the Athens Medical School as the second-ranked student on the national college entrance exams, died prematurely and unexpectedly at the age of 45. He passed away in Athens, and the tragic news quickly reached his hometown. Volos is watching in stunned silence as details and accounts emerge regarding the end of a brilliant young man who had distinguished himself through his knowledge and character.

The brilliant scientist, who had an illustrious scientific career that was unfortunately cut short by fate, suffered a cardiac arrest at his home in Athens. He passed away at the age of 45.

He was found dead last Tuesday (August 16, 2022) his family was informed by a neighbor that the air conditioner had been running continuously, while he showed no signs of life, and the neighbor alerted the police. No one expected this tragic outcome, as the 45-year-old was accustomed to spending long periods of time alone, devoted to his scientific studies.

Unfortunately, the outstanding doctor’s heart suddenly gave out, according to the results of the medical-legal examination, and did not allow him to carry out his plans, which held the promise of a bright future ahead of him. From a young age, he stood out for his talent, intelligence, and thirst for knowledge.

He was admitted to the Athens Medical School as the second-ranked student, and upon completing his studies, he pursued a specialty in psychiatry, focusing specifically on child and adolescent psychiatry. He then pursued graduate studies in France, focusing on child and adolescent psychiatry.

He quickly distinguished himself among other scientists, which is why he worked as a psychiatrist at a leading psychiatric hospital in France. His scientific career continued with yet another major distinction. In the five years before returning to Greece, he received and accepted an invitation to work at the Geneva Public Psychiatric Hospital. At the same time, he was appointed as an expert witness for the Swiss judicial system.

With an impressive academic background and valuable experience gained from the top positions he held abroad, he returned to Greece, settled in the capital, and, full of dreams, was preparing to open his private practice in Nea Smyrni. He had arranged everything down to the last detail and was filled with an inexhaustible desire to serve his fellow human beings. The clinic was set to open last Monday, and he was also planning the grand opening. Unfortunately, however, he never got the chance…

According to taxydromos.gr, the sad news of his death «shocked» the local communities of Volos and Agios Georgios Nea Anchialos, where the deceased’s family resides, with his loved ones noting that a brilliant scientist has been lost—a unique individual in terms of character, principles, and knowledge.

His funeral will be held on Friday, August 19, at 12:00 p.m. at the Church of St. George in Nea Anghialos.
