The strong reaction of the Technical Chamber of Greece (TEE), Retrieved from the decision of the Ministry of Education to award an integrated master's degree to graduates of the University of West Attica.
In fact, the TEE speaks of the Ministry's method to award professional rights to graduates of PADA, similar to graduates of polytechnics and polytechnic schools in the country.
Specifically, the steering committee of the TEI, says that «defending steadfastly the single, unbroken five-year diploma of engineers, condemns unequivocally the acceleration and the method of the Ministry of Education to award uncritically a single and indivisible integrated master's degree to the graduates of the Department of Civil Engineering of the School of Engineering of the University of West Attica (PADA)».
And in its statement, the TEI adds that «as the body responsible for the process of awarding professional licenses and, by extension, professional rights, based on technical responsibility and the public interest, will not allow the devaluation of the diplomas of the unified five-year unbroken curricula of the country's polytechnics and polytechnic schools, accepting that expediency should prevail over scientific and professional responsibility, quality, completeness and level of study, as the engineering profession is regulated, entails responsibilities and directly affects public safety and the public interest. On the contrary, it will do everything in its power to play its institutional, scientific and social role so that the policy of uncritically recognising and devaluing five-year engineering graduates is cancelled and to activate the legally prescribed evaluation procedures without institutional leaps and dictated decisions’.
The TEI had over time stated that the recognition of the single 5-year studies of engineers as an integrated master's level is a «key» for the graduation of technical responsibility between engineering graduates and TEI graduates.
