Tomorrow, Thursday 29 April 2021 at 11.00 a.m., the Shipping Council of the Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy will hold a meeting via videoconference to decide, among other things, on the initial tender for the service of the Gythio - Kythera return route. The tender does not refer to the operation of the service until 31.10.2021 without yet indicating the starting date.
The meeting will take place following the postponement of the previous one, scheduled for 23 April 2021.
The request for a second weekly connection between Gythio and Kythera was notified to the Ministry last year by the Municipality of eastern Mani, then by the Municipality of Kythera. Letters to the leadership had been sent from Kythera by both the mayor and the major opposition.
The information was shared by the Mayor of Kythera on his personal Facebook account stating the following:
«Following last year's unanimous decisions of the Municipal Councils of Kythera and East Mani and my recent reminder letter to the political leadership of the Ministry of Shipping, tomorrow's Council of Shipping Communications will decide on the announcement of the 2nd weekly subsidized route Gythio Kythera! I warmly thank the Government and personally the Minister of Shipping Yannis Plakiotakis, the Deputy Minister Kostas Katsafados and the Secretary General Evangelos Kyriazopoulos for their substantial contribution to the upgrading of the ferry service of our islands and the extraordinary support of the lines from the beginning of the pandemic until today!».
