«Our attempt is not to usurp anyone's rights. Our endeavour is to find a way for both communities to feel safe and secure and for the human rights of both communities to be guaranteed», stressed the President of the Republic of Cyprus Nicos Anastasiades, at the meeting with the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, in Maximos Mansion, referring to the five-party conference to be held next week.
Anastasiades described as important «after 3.5 years the effort to convene a meeting of the UN Secretary General the conference to investigate in order to have a dialogue to solve the problem». He also agreed with the statement that «the frameworks we will negotiate are defined by UN resolutions, Security Council resolutions and EU principles and values., and were determined the last time in the efforts to resume the 2019 dialogue in Berlin in the presence of the UN Secretary General and Mr Akinci.».
Nicos Anastasiades also set the framework for the resolution of the Cyprus problem: «The evolution of the Republic of Cyprus to create a functional and viable state, far from occupation troops and guarantees, and especially far from third party dependencies», he emphasized.
Addressing Kyriakos Mitsotakis, he thanked him once again for this meeting, and noted: «In this direction our positions - both ours and yours - coincide, your role in the negotiations will be different from ours in discussing details regarding the internal structure of the state, but on the issue of guarantee and security you will have an important role to play, and of course regarding respect for the resolutions of the United Nations.’.
