The leading music composer Mikis Theodorakis passed away on the morning of Thursday 2 September, plunging the whole of Greece into mourning. Lately, he had been facing serious problems. As his daughter Margarita told reporters waiting outside the house where he breathed his last breath, Mikis Theodorakis had been suffering for the last few days.
The people who were close to him knew that the end was near, but they didn't want to believe it. Some time ago, he had said, with his boundless humor, that he had managed to beat death many times and wondered: «Well, won't the day come when he will defeat me?»
In the last days of his life and despite the difficulties he was going through, the great Mikis wanted to lose himself in his favourite books.
The family friend, Thodoris Sergiadis, one of the people who lived close to Miki Theodorakis during his great moments, but also during his last difficult moments, uploaded a shocking video, in which Miki Theodorakis is depicted lying in his house at Filopappou, reading his favourite works.
«A circular dance of drunken hope», he managed to whisper, as his daughter Margarita was at his side. He had complete clarity of mind. In fact, Margarita suggested to him shortly afterwards that they read Electra and watch a video together.
