Successive waves of bad weather will affect our country over the next few days. More specifically, the weather is expected to worsen starting tonight (January 19, 2023) through Monday (January 23, 2023), with heavy rain and thunderstorms in the west, the north, and the eastern islands, accompanied at times by frequent lightning, hailstorms, and strong winds over the seas.
More specifically:
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast:
a) starting this evening, Thursday (January 19, 2023), in the northern Ionian Sea, Epirus, western Central Greece, and the western Peloponnese, and continuing until midday on Friday (January 20, 2023). The conditions will temporarily subside, but from Friday evening into Saturday, they are forecast to intensify again from the west.
b) from the morning through the evening hours on Friday in Central and Eastern Macedonia and in Thrace.
c) from Friday morning until evening in the eastern Aegean islands and the Dodecanese, and possibly briefly in the Cyclades and Crete.
Snowfall is expected in the mountainous regions of Epirus, western Central Greece, and western Macedonia (at altitudes of approximately 1,000–1,200 meters).
From Saturday (January 21, 2023) through Monday (January 23, 2023)
1) Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast:
a) from the early morning hours of Saturday until the evening in the northern Ionian Sea, Epirus, western Central Greece, and the western Peloponnese, and again from Sunday evening through Monday at noon.
b) from noon on Saturday until noon on Sunday in Central and Eastern Macedonia, Thrace, the islands of the eastern Aegean, and again from noon on Monday until the evening.
Snowfall is expected in the mountainous areas of Epirus, western Central Greece, and western Macedonia (at an approximate elevation of 800 meters) on Saturday.
