What Does the Community of Kythira Expect?

There is keen interest in the appointment of the relevant official Minister of the Environment and Energy, as the issue of wind farms has caused widespread concern:

  • For Installation of wind turbines within Natura areas,
  • For lack of meaningful consultation,
  • And as for the siting of projects in iconic landscapes, such as Ortholithos and the Stratigadika of Mylopotamos.

The photorealistic renderings speak for themselves

The photorealistic renderings reveal the alteration of the landscape in two critical areas:

  • Stratigadika (Mylopotamos): one of the island’s most historic and naturally beautiful landscapes. It is home to the second most historically significant medieval settlement, featuring the Venetian Fortress, the wetland with its waterfalls—an area protected by presidential decree and a candidate for inclusion in UNESCO’s cultural heritage protection network.
  • Ortholith: a geological monument in the heart of the Nature Protection Zone, of international ecological significance.

The question remains:

What will the minister's position be?;

Will he confirm that the studies are moving forward?;

Will there be a halt, a review, or simply… damage control?;

Kythira is waiting for answers—not just words.

  1. KYTHIRA IS A MIGRATION ROUTE FOR THOUSANDS OF BIRDS THAT MIGRATE FROM THE NORTH TO THE SOUTH EVERY YEAR!!!!
    NO TO WIND TURBINES!!!!

  2. The Secretary-General should have signed the study yesterday without any changes whatsoever. He should do the job we pay him to do. And let the Presidential Decree be issued so we can put this to rest—not a single wind turbine on Kythira.
