Opinion of the National Committee for Vaccination, for the AstraZeneca's vaccine, expected today, as the European Medicines Agency (EMA) referred the decision to its member countries EU for the administration of the vaccine. He announced that he had found rare cases of blood clots in some adults who received this vaccine, noting however that the benefits of the vaccine still outweigh its risks.
It should be noted that each country differentiates the ages for use of the vaccine, with some recommending that people over 60 years of age, others over 55 years, while the UK has stated that people under 30 years of age should receive another covid-19 vaccine.
At today's meeting of the National Vaccination Committee, which is monitoring all the scientific data, no major changes are expected in the country's vaccination programme, the Secretary General of Primary Health Care Marios Themistocleous. He added that there is no question in any European country of stopping AstraZeneca vaccinations, stressing that what is being discussed is age restrictions.
It should be recalled that initially the administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine was decided in several countries, as in Greece, from the age of 18 years up to 64 years, because the studies included a small number of people over the age of 65 years. Subsequently, the recommendations from the National Vaccination Committee were updated, based on the findings of studies involving large populations on the efficacy of the AstraZeneca vaccine in older people, so that this vaccine could be administered to all ages and over 65 years. However, despite the debate on AstraZeneca's vaccine, the vaccination participation rate exceeds 90%, while 10,000-12,000 AstraZeneca vaccinations are given every day.
