Dust emissions from Libya and Egypt are moving towards our country and are expected to affect it from today until Thursday. According to AtmoHub, the atmospheric information hub for Greece, the phenomenon will be accompanied by extensive rainfall, initially in Western Greece (31/3) and then on 1-2/4, throughout the country.
Rain will occur in many areas in the form of mud showers, helping to reduce dust concentrations near the surface.
However, the southernmost areas and those with more limited rainfall are expected to experience a higher air quality burden on 1-2/4, mainly:
- Cyclades
- Crete
- Dodecanese (especially Kasos, Karpathos, Symi and Rhodes)
It is noted that AtmoHub is coordinated by the NOA - ReACT team of IADET/EAA and supported by the Copernicus Atmosphere Monitoring Service National Collaboration Programme (CAMS).
