Ο Alex Bourkan, the man behind the YouTube channel “Alex Lab” created the first lightsaber with a blade of hot plasma.

The first step for Alex was to design and build high-pressure equipment that could then be adapted for his lightsaber.

This was followed by hundreds of experiments to determine how to create the shape and length of the blade he wanted, as well as to figure out how to adapt this feature to the lightsaber hilt.
«It's the prototype, so it has a lot of limitations. It only operates at full power for 30 seconds; the hydrogen torch isn’t as stable as it could be, and you can easily see that when it’s moving,» he explained, among other things.
«I believe that science will help us, and eventually we’ll have a lightsaber that’s close to the one in the movie,» he added.
Burkan isn't the only one who has tried to build a lightsaber. The Canadian company Hacksmith Industries, run by fellow YouTuber James Hobson, has released its own version, which also made it into the Guinness World Records. Unlike Bourkan’s creation, however, it requires an external power source.
«I know I'm not the only one trying to make the lightsaber dream a reality, and that makes me feel good. Hacksmith’s version is more powerful; it definitely works for over 30 seconds. Our duel would be extremely fast because I only have 30 seconds to win,» said the Russian.
