Numerous popular media from the UK, France and Italy are proposing Astypalaia for a real holiday in 2024 without mass tourism, with the municipality's efforts to enhance extroversion finding resonance in markets within and outside Europe. «Discover the Aegean butterfly that is a true haven of peace and what travellers call the charm of authenticity,» French travel website Easy Voyage highlights in a recent article.
The Daily Telegraph includes Astypalaia among the five well-hidden «corners» of Greece worth discovering this year, while special mention is made of the pioneering «green» project of the Greek government, Volkswagen and the municipality to turn the island into a model of sustainable development across the Mediterranean. At the same time, the island is also featured in Italian Vanity Fair's new list of the 23 most beautiful Greek islands, explaining that «with the new routes from Kos, the island is easily accessible, allowing Astypalea to reveal to Italians a whole new world».
It is noted that recently the «butterfly of the Aegean» «charmed» the professionals in Berlin during the ITB, the largest tourism exhibition in the world, in the context of a special presentation organized by the EOT Germany Office with the support of the municipality. «Through continuous actions, Astypalaea is opening its wings and revealing itself to the international travel public, which every year shows a growing preference for our exotic natural beauty, picturesque villages, tradition, gastronomy and sustainable innovations,» said the mayor of Astypalaia, Nikos Komeneas.
