The issue of recklessness disposal of bulky and waste materials on the island, touched, with a post on Facebook, the councillor of the major opposition, Nikos Chrysafitis.
The problem which, in this particular case, concerns the landfill site north of the River, is one of the many that have been recorded in various parts of the island in recent years.

In the recent past, the mayor has also raised the issue, focusing on the slow reflexes of individual responsibility on the part of citizens, who are obliged in such cases to notify the competent authorities by telephone before depositing any kind of rubble in the area.
In a related, even objection to the comments of citizens in his Facebook post, who insisted on the fact of the lack of a sufficient number of bins in the area, the mayor had contrasted the sevenfold increase in the volume of waste during his term of office and the lack of sufficient staff for more frequent collection routes. It had, moreover, insisted on full compliance with collection rules and proper recycling.
The problem, in short, runs along 3 axes. Firstly, it is given that lack of logistical infrastructure (the absence of a sufficient number of bins, as citizens often complain), then insufficient staffing (resulting in a small number of routes) and finally the need to comply fully with the provisions of the collection regulations. Nevertheless, it is customary for the municipal services to provide bins when requested by citizens, even close to their property, i.e. near the source of the bulky waste. In fact, there are many cases in which the deputy mayor, George Kominos has responded to similar requests, even on the same day.
Above all, however, it is a question of a more general aesthetics that tests the reflexes of our ecological consciousness and brings us face to face with the external good testimony of the place we live in and, supposedly, that we all care and love.
