The current regional authority refers to «political amorality,» «unwarranted collaborations,» and «shady alliances» in a press release it issued on the occasion of Rena Dourou's recent visit and subsequent statements, at landmark projects completed during her tenure in the municipalities of Vari–Voula–Vouliagmeni following her meeting with the mayor of 3B, G. Konstantellos.
The press release states:
«The visit by Ms. Dourou, head of the Environment Sector of SYRIZA and former Regional Governor of Attica, accompanied by local officials from the official opposition party in the Municipality of Vari-Voula-Vouliagmeni, as well as the statements she made in the press release she issued immediately afterward, once again highlighted the political amorality of those who governed the country’s largest region from 2015 to 2019, as well as those who continue to support them.
It is offensive to the citizens of Attica—and especially to the residents of the 3B Municipality—for the previous administration to speak of a project in this municipality, under the rather strange «tacit tolerance» of the city’s mayor. What project are they referring to?;
Since when has simply signing program agreements for the sake of winning votes—a few months before the elections—without secured funding been considered a «project»?;
Is she calling out the current administration for failing to pay its own «bounced checks»? How can it demand that the current administration accomplish in two years what it failed to do in four, especially when it knows that upon leaving, it took with it SYRIZA’s «cash cow» from the Region, leaving approximately 300 million euros in the coffers and liabilities exceeding 1.5 billion?;
Does she believe that, through visits and photo ops, she can fool the municipality’s residents and sell them «seaweed as silk ribbons,» with the mayor’s strange tolerance? And what, ultimately, is the common political narrative linking the current mayor to the SYRIZA sector head?;
It is outrageous for the former Regional Governor to speak of flood protection projects in the Municipality of BBB with a budget of 33 million euros, when we all know—and the Mayor knows this better than anyone—that the Attica Region, under Dourou’s administration, never allocated these funds to the municipality.
It is provocative for the former Regional Governor to speak of a delay regarding the Korbi Stream regulation project, when we all know that the only party not responsible for the delay in this specific project is the current Regional Administration. But this is just one of the many «problematic» and stalled projects left to us as a «legacy» by Ms. Dourou, who today, two years later, has come to ask us for «change on top of that.».
It is also provocative that the former SYRIZA Regional Governor states in her announcement that she discussed the issue of waste management in Attica with the mayor. What exactly did they discuss, and what achievements does Ms. Dourou have to show for herself in this area, aside from the Fyli landfill?;
It is Ms. Dourou’s right to conduct party campaigns in Attica, just as it is the right of every mayor to attend these campaigns and support her party’s narrative. The citizens are watching and judging.
The response of the Attica Regional Administration to ill-advised partnerships and «shady alliances» is to focus on getting more work done throughout Attica, in every municipality.
