Rotten fruits and vegetables were distributed to students of primary schools in Patras as part of the Fruit, Vegetable and Milk Distribution Programme in which 150,000 primary school pupils across the country are participating.
The fruit and vegetables distributed by the Ministry of Rural Development and Food, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, in the Primary Education of Achaia, were corrupted and rotten.
According to ERT's report, the adulterated products were found in five schools in the area and there was upset among parents, who reported the incident.
The Director of Primary Education of Achaia, Anastasios Stavrogiannopoulos, confirmed the fact in his statements to ERT Patras: «There have indeed been complaints from parents to the schools, but not too many. There have been random checks on the products by teachers before they are given to children, but it is not possible to check all the packaging. It was found that in five schools in the area, after these checks, some adulterated products were found. We immediately drafted our complaint both to the company and to the relevant ministries of Rural Development and Education to have an audit done and to see where all this has come from because until now we have not had any similar incidents.».
