Spyros Karanikolas resigned from PASOK-KINAL with pointed remarks against Androulakis

In his letter he denounces the «current leadership of PASOK» that «it has chosen other paths. Without a clear direction and without a visible way out, with only the aim of poll ratings and not the implementation of these policies, in which the respective ratings must be translated. And, above all, violating the principle that the country should always be placed above party formations. It is thus marching along, trapped in personal and selfish choices, inferior to the critical circumstances and inadequate to the historical challenges. Instead of innovating at the level of ideas and solutions, it is confined to the thankless political role of “pretentious neutral”. Without a stigma and without a clear plan for the country's course. Without the willingness to take responsibility and formulate clear positions beyond the preamble and the slogan. In this way, however, he is helping to open the way to political instability and political uncertainty, which will de facto work to the detriment of the country.».

The letter of Sp. Karanikolas' letter reads as follows:

«For several years now, the country has been experiencing a persistent and multi-layered crisis, which has intensified in recent months. War, energy crisis, inflation, rising Greek-Turkish tensions are some of the challenges that need to be addressed immediately and effectively. In these critical moments, it is more necessary than ever for the political system and the political parties to rise to the occasion.

It requires broader consensus, sincere cooperation and joining forces; it requires seriousness, responsibility and going beyond. Above all, concrete solutions are needed, not just slogans and slogans.

In order to effectively serve the national and collective interest, petty party calculations and expediencies need to be put aside. Personally, I entered politics believing that defending the national interest and daring to engage in broader partnerships with respect for democratic logic, as well as individual political differences, were unassailable principles. In the face of the forces of populism and demagogy that have set the country backwards.

But the current leadership of PASOK seems to have chosen other paths. With no clear direction and no visible way out, with only the goal of poll ratings and not the implementation of these policies, in which the respective ratings must be translated. For these reasons, I am resigning today as a member of PASOK-KINAL, but I remain an active citizen and professional and will continue to fight every day for a better tomorrow for the country.
