More than 710,000 minors up to 12 years old, as well as minors over 12 years old who did not already have one, automatically received a VAT number from the Independent Public Revenue Authority in November.
Thus, the action of automatic issuance of VAT to all minor children aged 1 to 18 was completed, following last year's automatic issuance of VAT to minors over 12 years old, with the total automated issuance of 1,126,000 VATs.
The new procedure makes it much easier for parents/guardians, as they no longer need to apply or visit the services of the Hellenic Tax Administration to obtain a VAT number for their minor children. It should be noted that the granting of a TIN to minor children does not create an obligation to obtain a lock and key or to file returns.
For the completion of the actions, the interoperability services with the Civil Registry, provided by the Interoperability Centre of the General Secretariat for Information Systems and Digital Governance (GSISD), were used. At the same time, through interoperability with the National Police, the gradual updating of the Taxpayers' Registry with the ID cards of minor children who received a Tax Identification Number last year and this year with the automated procedure. To date, the picture of 142,000 minor children has been updated.
The aim of this action is to automate the issuing of a key fob by the children themselves when they reach adulthood.
