Let's go again. Another glamorous night followed by even more glamorous performances is a fact. The red carpet of the awards Oscar is one of the biggest nights not only in cinema, but also in fashion. One of the most important events in Hollywood that, over the years, has given us iconic moments that have gone down in fashion history.
From Cher's iconic look with her Bob Mackie two-piece ensemble, Cate Blanchett's ethereal Givenchy gown in 2011 to Angelina Jolie's famous Versace dress, with its sharp slit and leg, which «stole» the show at the 2012 Oscars. But now, two years after the pandemic and an institution full of controversy (in recent years), the Oscars 2022 are predicted unpredictably.
Perhaps this year's Oscars 2022, held at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, with three different hosts every hour, Amy Schumer, Regina Hall and Wanda Sykes, will be a new beginning, a fresh new start, for fashion on the carpet at least, which is desperately hungry for “glitz & glamour”. For some fashion that is glamorous to the extent of kitsch, that has colour (expressing optimism) for fashion that inspires, that is political, that is timeless and that has left behind, or at least for a few hours, all that we have lived through in recent years and that offers us that romance and the need for escape that we all seek so much.
The Oscars 2022 is a fantastic opportunity for all the glamorous celebrities attending to show what fashion really (should) be: a place that supports the arts, that supports diversity. A space that knows how to accept. So let's say goodbye to this year's “Awards Season” in a powerful way, enjoying and analyzing all the stunning looks we hope to see on this glamorous night. Let the Oscars 2022 be our escape for today.
Below, we track live all the glamorous performances at the 2022 Oscars.
The 2022 Academy Awards red carpet appearances

Predictable Zoe Kravitz in her powder pink Saint Laurent dress? Yes. Maybe the color of the dress wasn't so predictable but the line and the designer who chose to design the dress for her was. Of course, that doesn't mean her look wasn't elegant. It was, however, meh.

Gorgeous Jessica Chastain at the 2022 Oscars gave us everything we expected from tonight's carpet: effortless glam. Her Gucci sequined Gucci gown with sequins and ombre effect was fantastic. From the way it hugged her body to the contrast in the colors of the dress.

The “glitz & glam” theme that we have been waiting and longing for from this year's Oscars 2022 carpet continues. Lupita Nyong'o made a dazzling appearance in a gold Prada gown with embellished pink flowers and sparkly fringe. Stunning.

Red carpet queen Zendaya managed to make the designers' obsession with Y2K fashion look glamorous on the carpet. Created by Valentino, she wore a two-piece ensemble consisting of a cropped white shirt and a high-waisted sparkly maxi skirt, perfectly serving both glam and today's fashion.

At this year's Oscars 2022, Billie Eilish gives us “widow couture”, through a voluminous and dramatic Gucci dress. For her look, she decided to set aside the signature neon green colors she often wears and offer a monochromatic ensemble. The black ruffled dress was enough to bring the necessary “wow factor” to the carpet of the event. A pretty anti-Billie look that was missing “something” though. Definitely the styling needed something more but maybe it was also the fact that the star didn't fully support the outfit.

I don't often agree with Kristen Stewart's style choices and to be honest I don't agree with this one either. The actress chose to wear a Chanel suit that consisted of a jacket and short shorts. I love the fact that the look, in part, breaks the rules of etiquette and what a woman should wear on the red carpet. It's not always the prettiest dresses that make a woman beautiful or acceptable in society. And these shorts, in a sense, hide that message. But let it be a different pair of shorts. A more tailored one, one that brought a balance to the overall effect of her ensemble and I would have been perfectly happy.

Penelope Cruz and potato sack to wear on her will make it look chic. She has this effortless elegance that she exudes in every look and this one for the 2022 Oscars is no exception. She chose a Chanel dress which had the expected innate elegance that all of Cruz's looks have. Is this a look we'll remember next year or in six months? Probably not, but for now we're satisfied.

We've been waiting to see Schiaparelli's creations from the Spring/Summer 2022 couture collection on the Oscars 2022 carpet. Maggie Gyllenhaal brought the house's usual surrealism to the runway, offering a truly unique look that really impressed. A stunning look.

Good fashion inspires, men-women, women-men or however you define each in general. And Timothee Chalamet inspires us all with this sleek, modern yet retro, 70s reference Louis Vuitton suit. Another look that indulges in that glitz & glam I mentioned above.

I was looking forward to a Glenn Martens for Gaultier creation on the Oscars 2022 carpet. Jada Pinkett Smith made the selection with this mid-drama, one-of-a-kind gown in this luscious, emerald hue. The outfit didn't «suck» her in because it was the right proportions, resulting in a flawless look from head to toe.

Nicole Kidman indulged in a more traditionally glamorous look with her custom Armani Prive dress. But the balloon shape of the dress, the Vivianne Westwood-esque neckline and the gorgeous jewellery gave us everything we needed from this look.

Kirsten Dunst gave her own version of «floral in spring», choosing a Christian LaCroix strapless dress in pink-red with ruffles that mimic the petals of a rose. A beautiful look.

Ariana DeBose opted for a bright red hue for her 2022 Oscars appearance and a not-so-traditional look. She opted for a two-piece Valentino ensemble that consisted of wide-leg pants, corset top and a striking coat, all in the same fiery red hue. A fresh take on a red carpet-ish look.

The fact that we see the «sensitive side» of an athlete/fighter through this beautiful Gucci pink dress by Serena Williams is something we didn't expect. She supported even that softer side of her flawlessly though, through a dress that didn't lack sexiness (the plunging neckline and sharp slit added those elements to her look).
Oscars 2022: The red carpet has messages
Jamie Lee Curtis in a stunning navy blue sparkly dress and a ribbon with Ukraine's name on it, showing her support for the war-torn country.

A pleasant surprise on the Oscars 2022 carpet was Kodi. The Australian actor opted not to choose a traditional black suit for his look, but a powder blue one, created by Bottega Veneta. The new generation is trying to change the norm in old-fashioned red carpet looks and we love it.

Tracee Ellis Ross in a stunning Carolina Herrera mermaid dress, with a bold print proudly showcases the new designer obsession: the female breast.
