PRESS RELEASE
«ALL TOGETHER, KYTHERA - ANTI-KYTHERA»
A meeting like that, without substance!
Older people may remember a radio programme by Maria Rezan called «An hour like this, without a programme». Younger people can get into the spirit of that programme simply by watching a meeting of the Kythera-Antikythera Municipal Council. A meeting like that, without substance!
So imagine: Kythira cut off by sea from the rest of Greece and the Mayor recommending the direct award of the Supply of «Promotional gifts (ceramics - beach towels - hats - T-shirts - pens - pens - calendars... worth 36.890,00€ euros»... Instead of being in Athens (along with other, permanently installed there members of the Board...) and moving heaven and earth to solve the huge problem, deals with direct assignments!
Let's let our imagination run wild some more: Our faction «All Together» has called for the removal (as soon as possible) of the shipwrecks from the main port of Diakofti and the beach of Limniona. What could be more logical on an island that also lives from tourism? But come on, we didn't get any answer, but some wishful thinking like that, without any commitment...
Instead, we heard the Deputy Mayor and President of the Municipal Port Fund of Kythera recommend the «Approval of the Budget of the Municipal Port Fund of Kythera« for the year 2024.We asked about the provision of code 02.15 »Services of Culture, Sports and Social Policy« of 31.500 €, but they did not know what to tell us... After that we voted white.
We also asked (and on the occasion of the ship's grounding in the port of Diakofti) to include an amount for the updating of the original construction study of the port (to shield the safety of the port - ships and passengers) but again we were not listened to.
On the occasion of the above, the head of the major opposition in the Kythera-Antikythera Board, Zacharias Souris, made the following statement.« The Kythera Municipal Council must discuss the major problems of the island and take decisions with absolute priority. We have expressed our positive intention to help solve the major problems of our islands. Unfortunately, so far neither the big issues are solved nor transparency prevails...»
