Private construction activity increased by 3.8% in May, while an increase of 22% was recorded in the first five months of the year (January-May) according to the Hellenic Statistical Service.
Data from the Building Activity Survey for the month of May 2024 show that:
The size of the total building activity (private - public), in the month of May 2024, in the whole country, based on the issued building permits, amounted to 2,065 building permits, corresponding to 461,144 m2 of surface area and 2,246,001 m3 of volume.
That is, it showed a decrease of 19.6% in the number of building permits, a decrease of 6.7% in area and an increase of 3.4% in volume, compared to the corresponding month of 2023.
The issued permits for private construction activity, in the whole country, in the month of May 2024 amounted to 2,055 building permits, corresponding to 457,423 m2 of surface area and 2,225,886 m3 of volume, showing a decrease by 19.5% in the number of building permits, a decrease by 6.8% in surface area and an increase by 3.8% in volume, compared to the corresponding month of 2023.
The issued permits for public construction activity in the month of May 2024, in the whole country, amounted to 10 building permits, corresponding to 3,721 m2 of surface area and 20,115 m3 of volume. The share of Public Building Activity in the total construction volume for the month of May 2024 is 0.9%.
During the period of the last twelve months, i.e. from June 2023 to May 2024, the total construction activity (private-public) based on the issued building permits, in the whole country, amounted to 29,815 building permits, corresponding to 6,920,543 m2 of surface area and 31,450,808 m3 of volume.
Compared to the corresponding period June 2022 - May 2023, there was an increase of 13.5% in the number of building permits, an increase of 17.6% in area and an increase of 19.2% in volume.
Private and Public Building Activity
During the same period, June 2023 - May 2024, Private Construction Activity, shows in the whole of the country, an increase of 13.6% in the number of issued building permits, an increase of 17.7% in surface area and an increase of 19.2% in volume, compared to the corresponding period June 2022 - May 2023.
The share of Public Building Activity in the total construction volume for the above period is 2.3%.
In the five-month period January - May 2024, the Total Construction Activity shows, in the whole country, an increase of 26.8% in the number of building permits, an increase of 28.9% in surface area and an increase of 21.6% in volume, compared to the corresponding five-month period of 2023.
During the same period January - May 2024, Private Construction Activity, shows an increase of 26.9% in the number of building permits, an increase of 30.2% in surface area and an increase of 22.0% in volume, compared to the period January - May 2023.
