An important development for the island of Kythira, as the country’s Supreme Court of Appeals, the Council of State, issued a decision that definitively vindicates the Municipality of Kythira and the Local Property Committee. As stated in the municipality’s official announcement:
«A historic day for Kythira! We are pleased to announce that the country’s Supreme Court of Cassation, the Council of State, has definitively, overwhelmingly, and irrevocably ruled in favor of the Municipality of Kythira and the Local Property Committee, rejecting the petitions for annulment filed by the Church of Greece and the Holy Metropolis of Kythira and Antikythira regarding the administration and management of the Holy Pilgrimage Sites of Kythira. The interventions by the Municipality and the Local Property Authority were essentially accepted. A joint statement by the Mayor of Kythira, Mr. Efstratios Charhalakis, and the Chairman of the Local Property Committee, Mr. Evangelos Venardos, will be issued later today.»
