The municipal combination “Kythira-Antikythera-We live here”, regrets the loss of life in the wreck of Diakofti the day before yesterday and considers it necessary to create »a municipal protocol for dealing with these situations».
At the same time, it praises all those involved in the rescue operation and stresses the urgent need for «humanitarianism and respect for human life» to remain priorities for all.
Here is the press release:
“Kythera-Antikythera -ΜWe are here”
We regret the loss of so many human lives on the shores of our island.
We congratulate and thank the staff of the services and the dozens of compatriots who take part in the rescue and care of the shipwrecked migrants. .
We consider important the presence of the entire municipal authority and the councillors in the management of the situation and we express our satisfaction for the acceptance of our earlier proposal for the temporary use of municipal buildings and the implementation of an expenditure code for dealing with the refugee problem.
The creation of a municipal protocol for dealing with these situations is essential so that the officials and the dozens of volunteers can contribute even more effectively.
The instrumentalisation of the migration issue and European evasions must not distract us from the expression of humanity and respect for human life.
Kythera is hospitable and they prove it in practice.
The councillors
