It is with anguish that Greek citizens and the international community have been watching the last few days the devastating work of the fires in our country. At Kythera, we are blessed to still have intact the forest of Gerakari. It is very pleasing that the services of the Municipality of Kythera have started lately the opening of firebreaks that contribute to the protection of the forest.

Readers who was at the site recently sent us photos and begged us to draw everyone's attention to the work being done in the area. He referred to partial accumulation of fuel within the forest and asked us to highlight it in order to have the provision by the authorities to ensure rapid clearance of cut branches and leaves in the woods.
