A press release was issued by Municipality of Kythira, regarding the recent meeting at the office of the Deputy Regional Governor of the Attica Islands, Ms., Vasiliki Theodorakopoulou-Bogri, in the presence of the Mayor of Kythira, Mr. Eustratios Charhalakis, during which there was an extensive discussion about the projects currently underway in Kythira and Antikythira.
«On Friday, October 22, a meeting was held at her office" Deputy Regional Governor of the Attica Islands, Ms. Vasiliki Theodorakopoulou Bogris, in his presence Mayor of Kythira, Mr. Efstratios Charchalakis and the staff members of the Region’s technical departments. At the meeting, all ongoing projects in the Kythera and Antikythera, which are funded by the Region and the Attica Regional Operational Program and have an actual budget exceeding 28 million euros.
The most important of these is the waste management, an exemplary and modern project, which is now operated under the responsibility of EDSNA and without any involvement on the part of our municipality, thereby permanently relieving the municipality and our islands of the burden of proper waste management. Road construction, water supply, and urban renewal projects, as well as studies for port projects, are in full swing.
Furthermore, The mayor presented the initial plans for the Kythira Municipal Slaughterhouse to the Deputy Regional Governor, which is progressing rapidly with technical assistance from the Attica Regional Operational Program (ROP) through the Islands Network and in accordance with the provisions of Law 4674/2020. This is a development project that had been stalled for 40 years, and the current municipal and regional administrations have made it their top priority. In the coming months, the environmental permitting process for the project and the Design-Construction Document will be completed so that the project can be submitted for funding.
The progress of the projects was reviewed and relevant instructions were provided, while the mayor expressed complete satisfaction with the cooperation between the municipality and the regional government, which is strengthened daily through tangible results and concrete projects that benefit the citizens.»
